The scripture fresh in their minds, the parishioners, dubbing themselves, “The Task Force for the Homeless”, begin taking soup out to these forgotten souls. The first Thanksgiving Day meal is served to the homeless and hungry a couple of weeks later. By integrating faith, knowledge, and community, St. Matthew students will become a person with strong character, an effective communicator, an active Christian, a responsible citizen, and a life-long learner. As director of philanthropy and planned giving, Marquette will help supporters establish their legacy while transforming the lives of Immokalee’s youth.

ST. MATTHEW'S HOUSE FOOD DISTRIBUTION

We encourage you to get to know our incredible community where children flourish as achievers and contributors, as learners and as human beings. St. Matthew’s House operates the only two homeless shelters in Collier County, the Campbell Lodge. You'll also get exclusive access to seasonal discounts and sales events. St. Matthew's House hosts or contributes to several events in our community every year. See what events you can be a part of as a volunteer, supporter, or attendee. The expected finish date for the Fort Myers homeless shelter is the summer of 2024.

Pantry adopts National Best Practice food assistance model

Throughout the years, community support has helped grow the small mission into a multi-faceted organization focused on spiritual change. St. Matthew’s House began in 1987 when a bible study group followed a calling to bring food to a homeless population living in a nearby wooded area. We strive for the best business and ministry practices in every area of the organization. In our personal lives, we are expected to live a life that is blameless and carry ourselves with integrity.

Contribute to the mission with monetary support, in-kind goods, or food donations. Property owners can apply for the exemptions on the PVA’s website, jeffersonpva.ky.gov. There’s both an online form and a printable form on the “Forms & Tools” section of the website. Area Social Security offices and local government centers should have the form, as well. This figure gets subtracted from a property’s assessed value, lessening the amount taxed. That translates to $533-$630 in savings, depending on which taxing jurisdiction a person lives in.

Florida Prepaid open enrollment deadline approaches

Justin’s Place was launched in response to the need for long-term solutions for the struggles faced by our community’s most at-risk individuals. Our residential treatment facilities provide life’s essentials, so that struggling individuals can focus on recovery. Within a few days of this Bible study, an article appears in the Naples Daily News about the homeless population living in the woods.

St. Matthews House has been on a mission since 1987 to solve hunger, homelessness, addiction, and poverty. Our thrift stores make it possible for 100% of St. Matthew's House donations to fund our life-saving programs, which bring hope to people in our community. Our online thrift store is an extension of the broad selection of high-quality goods our customers have come to expect from us.

There is also a Garden House on the property that was occupied by Dion Neutra and his family. Tours of the VDL House are conducted on Saturdays by architecture students from Cal Poly Pomona. In just months, homeless women and children in Lee County could find themselves a new home after a shelter broke ground this week to give up to 300 of them a safe place to land. Instead of offering a box of pre-selected items, qualified recipients will have a choice of what they receive. A recent study funded by the Morgan Stanley Foundation and conducted by Feeding America and University of Chicago included 28 food banks and 111 food pantries.

Financial contributions for St. Matthew’s House come primarily from private donations, faith-based organizations, corporate contributions, and local and national grant support. St. Matthew’s House does not rely upon government funding in any manner. We are helpful by providing food, shelter, clothing, and care for the sick and by visiting those in jail. Join us by lending your time and skills and becoming an integral part of the community-driven efforts.

"We're in our 35th year, and we really started with the need to serve the homeless and serve people who are hungry," Brooder said. "Our mission is just growing over all the years to continue to serve hunger, homelessness [and] addiction." St. Matthew's House is committed to assisting those who are suffering from a drug or alcohol addiction.

One neighbor in Cape Coral saw something unusual in his backyard Friday afternoon. A powerful symbol of honor and remembrance is standing proudly here in Southwest Florida. The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is open to the public, a reminder of those we lost who served our country. All parents fear the expense of college for their children; however, the state offers a great option in the Florida Prepaid Plan. During the pandemic, they provided 270,000 households with groceries. They began gathering contributions of both food and clothing, according to the nonprofit, and started with a soup kitchen vision.

The mission of St. Matthew’s House has been to help those who, through circumstances in their lives, need a hand up. Brooder said the Lee County Homeless Coalition recently reported at least 165 women live in their cars. As for when the new center opens to the public, Brooder said he expects it will quickly accommodate many women and children in need. The 8,000-square-foot facility in Fort Myers will provide 11 private dorms for women with children and 28 beds for single women.

“Because our office does not know every detail of your property, we want to make it easy for you to seek your appeal,” Younger said at a Thursday press conference. Parents and legal guardians of disabled children may qualify for this exemption if they put the property in a legal trust for the benefit of the disabled individual. Under state law, properties are to be reassessed at least once every four years.

Our thrift stores offer thousands of new items to its customers every day. Shop at any of our six conveniently located stores throughout Southwest Florida and snag fantastic finds at the perfect price. St. Matthew’s House has been making great strides in its new women and children homeless shelter. "Many women that were on their own ... Single women, senior women, moms or kids were struggling to make ends meet," Brooder said. "And that just forced a lot of people, especially women into homelessness." Brooder said they've been involved in Lee County for quite a while with thrift stores and women's recovery campuses.

The new location expects to house upwards of 300 women and children per year, as the local Hunger and Homeless Coalition expressed a desperate need for this facility. According to the Lee County Homeless Coalition's 2023 census, last year, 118 children were homeless, out of which 40 were unsheltered. The number has climbed since 2021, when 76 children were documented homeless in the county — 20 of them unsheltered, the data shows. However, on May 6, we are transitioning from multi-location food distributions to a National Best Practice model for food pantries endorsed by Feeding America. This Best Practice model is being adopted by food pantries across the country. We went from serving 300 families a month to serving over 4,000 families in April of 2020 and the numbers kept climbing.

St. Matthew’s House works to eliminate the elements of poverty at their base. Our homeless shelter and feeding ministry have opened their doors to countless lives without taking a day off in more than a quarter century. The “Task Force for the Homeless” began gathering contributions of both food and clothing, establishing the mission’s food pantry. The Missions and Ranchos are a special designation of historic homes that have such a unique position in telling the history of southern California that they deserve a separate page.
